With the onset of winter and falling temperatures, the problem of windshield de-icing is making a comeback. What can you do to solve the problem quickly and without damaging your car's windows?
Scrapers, old CDs or credit cards... these tools can damage your vehicle and waste a lot of time. Another common mistake? Pouring lukewarm or boiling water directly onto the windscreen: the sudden change in temperature could shatter the glass, especially if it's already been chipped.
It's on the most popular social platform of the moment, namely TikTok, that some simple but ingenious tips for removing ice from windscreens and coming to the aid of motorists are emerging. Using everyday objects, TikTiok users can now remove the layer of ice that forms on their vehicle's windscreen overnight, in just a few seconds. There's no need to scrape or toil to remove it.
Covering the windscreen
@tristanwalton13 's video has racked up millions of views (and continues to do so). The TikToker shows how to solve the problem in exactly 5 seconds, simply by covering the windshield with cardboard.
He advises to place the cardboard on the windscreen the day before a snowstorm and remove it in the morning for a completely clean surface. And if you forget?
Hot-water bottle
There's the hot-water bottle tip, and it's certainly the most shared on TikTok. While it's not advisable to pour it directly onto the windshield, you can still put the hot water in an airtight bag and use it on the windshield, rubbing it in like a sponge.
Are you convinced?
