It's confirmed: the first European stadium designed exclusively for women's soccer will be built in Brighton

Brighton Women is to build Europe's first stadium designed exclusively for a women's team: scheduled to open in 2030, 10,000 seats, with breastfeeding rooms, changing tables and stroller areas.

European women's soccer is entering a new era, and Brighton has decided to accelerate more than anyone else. The English club has announced the construction of the first stadium in Europe designed exclusively for a women's team. An initiative which, just a few years ago, would have seemed totally disproportionate, even for the continent's richest clubs. The stadium will be built at Bennett's Field, next to the existing Amex Stadium, home to the men's team, and linked to it by a pedestrian bridge.

The planned capacity will be at least 10,000, with opening scheduled, barring administrative delays, for the 2030-2031 season. The project has been dubbed "Built for Her" , a name that clearly illustrates the direction in which the club is heading. The announcement is all the more striking given Brighton's stature on the English scene. This is not Arsenal or Chelsea, but a club that has grown step by step and has never really dominated the Women's Super League. It is precisely this detail that is most significant: today in England, even mid-table clubs can afford major structural investments in women's soccer.

A stadium designed for supporters, families and players

Brighton Women currently play their matches at Crawley's Broadfield Stadium, more than 30 kilometers from the city. An impractical logistical solution that the club has decided to overcome with a completely new (and unprecedented) project, with no makeshift facilities or temporary relocations. The future stadium will be built to the highest standards, with modern changing rooms, recovery areas, family services, breastfeeding rooms, changing tables and stroller areas. There will also be areas for socializing, shopping and entertainment, as well as an underground parking lot integrated into the structure.

Only Kansas City Current had a stadium for a women's team

Brighton Women's CEO Zoe Johnson described the project as a "historic moment" for British and European women's soccer. It will be only the second stadium in the world entirely dedicated to a women's team. Before Brighton, only Kansas City Current in the USA had achieved this, with the inauguration of the CPKC Stadium in 2024. This operation is also in line with owner Tony Bloom's vision to make the club an international reference.

According to estimates reported by the BBC, the total investment should be between 80 and 90 million euros, to which should be added some ten million already spent on modernizing the Lancing training center. A very strong signal, showing just how far English women's soccer has come. And while dedicated stadiums are being designed in England, many teams in other European countries are still simply looking for a fixed pitch to play on.
